Cirque du Soleil and The Estate of Michael Jackson confirm plans for a permanent Michael Jackson production at Mandalay Bay

Mandalay Bay Resort & Casino President and Chief Operating Officer, Chuck Bowling, Cirque du Soleil President and CEO, Daniel Lamarre and Estate of Michael Jackson Co-Executor, John Branca, announced last Wednesday plans for new project honoring Michael Jackson, which includes a permanent Las Vegas show at the Mandalay Bay Hotel and Casino, plus a state of the art entertainment complex featuring a Jackson-themed lounge, an interactive memorabilia museum and a theater designed to replicate the iconic Neverland Ranch.

"Michael had a great affinity for Cirque. In my opinion, a couple of the Cirque shows I've seen are the best shows that have ever been made. Our intention is to top that." said John Branca, co-executor of Jackson's estate.

The plan was announced by Lamarre at a news conference announcing Cirque Du Soleil's new 'Immortal” tour due to kick off in October, 2011 in Montreal. Cirque du Soleil's $57 million "Michael Jackson, The Immortal World Tour" will also hit 30 cities including New York, Miami, Philadelphia, Los Angeles and Las Vegas.

According to the announcement, the new Las Vegas show is stated to open in early 2013, however, Cirque du Soleil will preview to the permanent Jackson attraction during a special fan convention set to take place at the Mandalay Bay in December, 2011. The first ever Estate-authorized Michael Jackson Fan Fest taking place for a limited time only at Mandalay Bay beginning December 3, 2011. This experience is expected to include a wide variety of elements such as an up-close look at Michael Jackson memorabilia, items from Neverland Ranch, photo opportunities in recreated sets from historic Michael Jackson videos, a behind-the-scenes look at the creation of Michael Jackson The IMMORTAL World Tour, a main stage featuring contests, Q&A sessions with members of the creative team from Michael Jackson The IMMORTAL World Tour as well as other associates of Michael Jackson, giveaways and more.

The Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas announced this morning that alternative rock band The Flaming Lips will perform a special live show at The Boulevard Pool on Friday, June 17th, 2011.

Formed in 1983 in Oklahoma City, The Flaming Lips recorded a series of albums on indie labels in the 1980s and early 1990s before releasing their major label debut Hit to Death in the Future Head on Warner Brothers in 1992. Fastest Arenacross Amateurs to compete for National Titles at South Point Hotel & Casino

The 2011 Amateur National Arenacross Championship (ANAC) presented by Feld Motor Sports, will arrive to Las Vegas on Sunday, May 8th for a full weekend of world class motorcycle racing held at the South Point Hotel, Casino, & Spa.

Following the season finale of the 2011 Monster Energy Supercross Championship on Saturday, May 7th at the Sam Boyd Stadium, the most highly-touted future stars of the AMA Arenacross Series will take center stage at the South Point Arena for a full day of racing action. The event will feature the fastest amateurs in the country competing head to head for a coveted AMA National Championship in a total of 21 classes.

The event also marks the ANAC debut at the South Point Hotel & Casino. In an effort to keep the Amateur National Arenacross Championship in a more traditional Arenacross-size venue, the event's organization announced last January its decision was made to move the race to the South Point Hotel’s state-of-the-art Arena and Equestrian Center.

“This is a great move for Arenacross to bring the National Championships back to the intimate environment of an arena. This is how our riders have qualified all year so they should be more acclimated to the tighter tracks. South Point is a great venue and should make for an outstanding event.” commented Arenacross Director Jayme Dalsing after announcing the new venue.

In addition to Sunday’s racing events, the 65 (7-11) and 85 (9-15) classes will take on the Sam Boyd Stadium with their older, faster supercross counterparts on Saturday afternoon. After making their debut in front of the sold out supercross audience last season, the most competitive classes of the ANAC will host their main events during the intermission prior to the kickoff of the Monster Energy Supercross finale.

Tuff-N-Uff: The Future Stars of MMA is returning to Las Vegas for an exciting 15-bout card event scheduled to take place on Friday, April 8th at the Orleans Hotel and Casino. The MMA event will feature two title fights, one in the men’s welterweight division and one in the women’s 115-pound division.

The main event will present Tuff-N-Uff welterweight champion Eddie Jackson (6-2) defending his title for the first time against number one contender Lee Henry Lilly (4-1). The co-main event will bring 115-pound champion Ashley Cummins (7-0) defending her title against Jocelyn Lybarger (3-0).

Other bouts set for the April 8th event at the Orleans Hotel include Xtreme Couture product Jake Swinney (5-1) vs. 10th Planet fighter Christian Palencia (3-2) and Milan Zerjal (2-1) against undefeated welterweight Chris Engles (4-0). Onlookers lined the runway to preview 2011 fall fashions from Express as models strutted the 70-foot catwalk specially built on the outdoor gondola bridge. While most front row seats at fashion shows are limited strictly to celebrities and fashion insiders, this show gave the public a once-in-a-lifetime chance to see the latest fashion trends up close and personal.

The Rock 'n' Roll Marathon Series, a musical format that revolutionized the running industry, has surged to the front of the pack once again by announcing the first ever nighttime start for the 2011 Zappos.com Rock 'n' Roll Las Vegas Marathon & 1/2 Marathon to Benefit the Crohn's & Colitis Foundation of America.

Runners will span across all eight lanes of Las Vegas Boulevard on Sunday night, December 4, exclusively shutting down the neon-lit Strip in epic fashion and instantly becoming the World's Largest Nighttime Running Event™. The marathon will begin at 4:00 pm and the half-marathon will start at dusk, approximately 5:30 pm. Each race will have a limited capacity of entrants and an enforced time limit to complete the distance.

A special website dedicated to the night race has been launched at Stripatnight.com, featuring an exclusive 48-hour registration promotion. Regular event registration for both the marathon and half-marathon will reopen to the general public on May 31, 2011.

Lads and lasses can toast the luck of the Irish as MGM RESORTS goes green in honor of St. Patrick’s Day.

Opening March 17 inside The Shoppes at Mandalay Place, Rí Rá will be the newest Irish pub to hit the Strip. Featuring salvaged material direct from Ireland, the only way it could be more authentic would be if it was located on the Emerald Isle. The pub’s authentic Victorian bar began its life in the 1880s at Foley’s in West Cork, Ireland and was later rebuilt in 1921 after burning down during the Irish Civil War.

The bar will be topped off with an original etched cut glass window dating back to 1900 from Mick Collins pub in Wicklow. A salvaged Georgian archway will lead from the front bar into a whiskey bar featuring an original glazed jewelry cabinet from 1900, restored mahogany paneling from a bank and an oak floor from a whiskey distillery. Celtic Feis returns to New York New York on March 17 featuring a full day of Irish entertainment, music and green beer. Las Vegas Motor Speedway (LVMS) and the Stratosphere Hotel Casino and Tower have teamed up to offer 400 disappointed football fans who were displaced from their seats at Sunday’s Super Bowl, the chance to attend the 2011 NASCAR Weekend in Las Vegas for free.

“It’s a shame what happened to all of those fans who got to the Super Bowl and then had nowhere to sit. I can assure them that the seats we are giving them are real, and they will have good seats to watch the Kobalt Tools 400 and Sam’s Town 300.” said LVMS president Chris Powell.

Fans who were left out from the Super Bowl and are eager to accept LVMS’s offer will receive a ticket to the 2011 NASCAR Weekend in Las Vegas. NBC's National Heads-Up Poker Championship returns to Caesars Palace on March 3-6

The seventh annual National Heads-Up Poker Championship presented by GoDaddy.com, will return in Las Vegas on March 3-6 for for an exciting three day event held at the Caesars Palace Poker Room. The event will bring 64 of the world's most elite poker players competing in a head-to-head challenge featuring $1.8 million in combined prize money.

Among the players, Annie Duke returns to the tables to defend her 2010 tournament title and her chance at the $750,000 first-place grand prize. I AM EQUAL project to make stop in Las Vegas on February 19th

The city of Las Vegas will play host to the historic I AM EQUAL project, an human rights and equality focused photo campaign, set to take place on February 19th, 2011 at the New York New York Hotel & Casino. The event will collect hundreds of new photos of people stepping up for causes of civil rights and human compassion in several communities and around the world.

I am Equal Project was created by Jason Beckett and fashion photographer Matt Spencer in January 2010 in an effort to empower individuals to speak out about the causes that inspire them. The project goal is to capture more than 100,000 photos of people from all walks of life with the “I am Equal” logo emblazoned on the palm of their hand as a symbol of their commitment to stand up for their rights, and the rights of others around the world.

Participation in the project is as simple as wearing a brightly-colored shirt and getting a photo taken during the open public event anytime from 11:00am to 9:00pm. After a brief registration process, individuals have a temporary tattoo put on their hand and then they present it to the camera in a creative way that represents their unique cause or issue.

“This project is here to empower individuals from all walks of life to get actively involved in a social dialog about the issues that mean the most to them. People participate in this photo campaign because they have a story to tell and a message to send the world; our job is to give them a platform to stand on so they can open their mouths and start changing the world.” commented project creator Jason Beckett.

Marinelli’s Italian Restaurant at the M Resort Spa Casino is launching a new Happy Hour menu to its bar, which brings more than 20 new authentic Italian dishes and desserts to its dinner menu. Marinelli’s new menu is set to launch on February 1st, and will also feature new entrees starting at just $19, plus a new three-course pre fixe dinner menu available for just $32.

Marinelli’s Bar Happy Hour menu will feature your choice of seven antipasti items for just $7 and five specialty cocktails for just $5 daily from 4 pm to 10 pm.

“At least 70 percent of the menu is new. We took the time to ask our guests what they wanted to eat and we’re excited to debut, what we feel, is a strong price point and menu with more options like our Happy Hour and pre fixe dining,” said Anthony Layton-Matthews, Vice President of Food & Beverage at the M Resort.

Chilean Miner Edison Pena Guest Stars in Viva Elvis at Aria Resort and Casino

Edison Peña, the Chilean miner who became popular worldwide as a major Elvis fan, visited Las Vegas January 10-12 to experience Viva ELVIS by Cirque du Soleil and ARIA Resort & Casino at CityCenter. Peña was offered a guest appearance in the show Tuesday, Jan. 11 and received VIP treatment during his stay at ARIA.

During the performance, Peña traveled across the Viva ELVIS stage in style, riding in the show’s representation of Elvis's iconic pink Cadillac during “Blue Suede Shoes.” After his special appearance in front of the excited audience he described the experience to the Viva ELVIS cast as “fantastic – the scenery, the special effects, the music, all of you. You are the best and beautiful. I have no words.”

Peña, along with 33 miners, was trapped underground in a Chilean mine for more than two months before help could bring them to the surface. During this time, Peña would have the miners sing Elvis songs to pass time and keep their spirits alive as they waited to be rescued.

After discovering the extent of Peña’s love for Elvis, Graceland offered the rescued miner a trip to Memphis where he received a private tour of the mansion and all of the exhibits. He was also able to experience other Memphis attractions such as the historic Sun Studio where Elvis, Johnny Cash, Carl Perkins and Jerry Lee Lewis all started their music careers.

Peña finished his whirlwind tour of everything Elvis with his exclusive cameo in Viva ELVIS, which stands as a tribute to the life and music of Elvis Presley.

Zagat Survey has released the results of its Las Vegas Restaurants Survey, with detailed local data, ratings and reviews available on zagat.com. The Survey includes a total of 523 Las Vegas restaurants based on the opinions of 3,736 local reviewers.

This year, the eponymous Joel Robuchon at the MGM GRand Hotel and Casino has been awarded Top Food and Service by Zagat reviewers, boasting a "bucket-list dining experience." The "extraordinary setting" of the Bellagio's Picasso has helped the restaurant earn Top Decor honors again this year, while Thomas Keller's Bouchon at the Venetian Resort and Casino was named Most Popular.

The guide rated Mastro's Ocean Club, located in Crystals at CityCenter as this year's top-rated newcomer thanks to its "exceptional" and "unique dining experience". The Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas also provided 10 of this year's 30 newcomers. Among those restaurants are Comme Ça (David Myers), Blue Ribbon Sushi (Bruce and Eric Bromberg), Milos, Estiatorio (Costas Spiliadis) and STK (Top Chef's Stephen Hopcraft). The Cosmopolitan also welcomed an outpost of Jose Andres' tapas restaurant Jaleo as well as his Mexican-Chinese fusion China Poblano, while Scott Conant brought his NYC Italian Scarpetta to the new hotel, along with new restaurant and wine bar D.O.C.G.

According to Zagat Guide, the prize of an average meal in Las Vegas actually increased from $44.44 in the last Survey to $47.53 this year. The increase maintains the city's distinction as the nation's most expensive dining locale, topping cities like New York ($41.76) and Miami ($39.86), which are both well above the national average ($35.44). When it comes to tipping, local diners leave an average 19.4% tip, which is greater than other in Western cities like Los Angeles (18.7%) and Seattle (18.6%).

The survey shows Las Vegas diners are eating out less. In the past five years, the average number of meals out per week has declined from 3.8 in 2005, to 3.3 in 2010, only slightly above the national average of 3.1. Furthermore, 15% of the reviewers said they are eating out less now than six months ago.

"The increase in meal cost this year is not surprising; as with all things in Las Vegas, dining out is a form of entertainment. Many of this year's most exciting newcomers are in hotels – and major hoteliers understand that in order to be a contender on the strip – they must have first-class restaurants." says Tim Zagat, CEO of Zagat Survey.

The guide also shows that food trucks are becoming a popular option in Las Vegas, offering mobile and affordable fare to foodies up and down the Las Vegas Strip. A notable 20% of reviewers actively follow food trucks and other restaurants via social networking sites. Two popular trucks include Slidin' Thru, serving up gourmet Angus and pulled-pork sliders and Patty Wagon, the mobile offshoot of the Red Rock Resort's LBS.

Janet Jackson Announces Caesars Palace Concerts for April

Janet Jackson will bring her "Number Ones, Up Close and Personal Tour" to The Colosseum at Caesars Palace Las Vegas on April 22nd and 23rd.

Kicking off in February in the Philippines, Janet's world tour will land in the U.S. starting March 4th in Houston, TX and will work its way through 15 cities, making stops in New York, Washington D.C., Atlantic City, Atlanta, L.A. and a few others before ending up in Las Vegas on April 22, 2011. Jackson will perform two shows at The Colosseum from her 2009 CD, Number Ones.

Speaking on the upcoming concerts on her website, Janet said, "These concerts are not about special effects. This is a love affair between me and those of you who have supported me and my work for all these years. I'll be singing and dancing from my heart. The music will be all the songs that you've made number ones for me...let's go!"

The concert venues for Janet's 2011 World Tour were decided, in most part, by her fans and their votes for where they would like to see their idol perform live. Ri Ra Irish Pub to open at Mandalay Place on St. Patrick's Day

Rí Rá Las Vegas, the new Irish pub set to open inside The Shoppes at Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino on St. Patrick’s Day (March 17, 2011), will bring the traditional Irish experience to Las Vegas Strip along with an impressive line-up of live music and a traditional atmosphere that will redefine pub standards in Las Vegas.

Rí Rá Las Vegas features authentic artifacts restored in Wicklow, Ireland. The pub’s authentic Victorian bar began its life in the 1880s at Foley’s in West Cork, Ireland and was later rebuilt in 1921 after burning down during the Irish Civil War. Some of the artifacts displayed at the new Rí Rá Las Vegas include an original etched cut glass window dating back to 1900 from Mick Collins pub in Wicklow, a salvaged Georgian archway featuring an original glazed jewelry cabinet from 1900, restored mahogany paneling from a bank and an oak floor from a whiskey distillery.

Rí Rá Las Vegas will offer patrons live entertainment seven nights a week. Travelers and locals will enjoy live performances at a music room constructed with artifacts from the Olympia Theater in Dublin, Ireland. Just like the pub itself, a majority of the entertainment will be direct from Ireland and include traditional Irish sessions and visiting bands. Every Friday and Saturday at 10 p.m, the bar will host Rí Rá Live, a special event presenting the best bands in town performing on the pub’s stage.

To give Rí Rá Las Vegas an authentic Irish atmosphere, the bar also imported an 8-foot-tall, 500-pound carved plaster statue of St. Patrick dating back to 1850. The statue is currently making a journey from Wicklow, Ireland to his new home at Rí Rá Las Vegas and taking snapshots along the way.

The bar will be topped with a traditional Irish menu with American influences and offering lunch, happy hour and dinner service. The menu includes dishes such as a 12 day in-house brined Corned Beef Brisket; fish and chips featuring the highest quality North Atlantic sourced Haddock and fresh cut chips; Shepherd’s Pie made with minced lamb; Potato and Leek Soup; Beef and Guinness Stew; a Guinness BBQ Burger and an All-day Irish Breakfast with eggs, sausages, rasher, black and white pudding, pan roasted mushrooms and grilled tomato with toast.

Rapper Jay-Z has reportedly booked a total of 50 rooms at the new Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas in preparation for his arrival to Vegas with his entourage and security staff. The star, who will be performing along with Coldplay at the Las Vegas hotel on New Year's Eve, is rumored to be receiving $1 Million for the one-night performance.

Although Jay-Z's rep. would not comment on the Vegas hotel reservations, a rep. for The Cosmopolitan issued this statement "We are looking forward to welcoming Jay-Z to the Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas, and as is our policy, we don't disclose details regarding a guest's accommodations or other arrangements while at the resort."

The party will be a star-studded event with reported guests including Beyoncé Knowles, Jennifer Lopez, Marc Anthony, Alex Rodriguez, Mark Wahlberg, Kristin Davis, Ellen Pompeo and Kellan Lutz.

The city of Las Vegas is expected to welcome around 320,000 visitors for the New Year's Eve celebrations on The Strip and it is estimated that they will spend upwards of $177 Million during their stay, not including gambling. Las Vegas Harley-Davidson is teaming up with Broken Chains Ministry to host their annual Christmas dinner for the homeless people in Las Vegas area. They will begin serving food at 10:00 a.m. on Christmas day in the Las Vegas Harley-Davidson dealership’s parking lot, located at 2605 S. Eastern Avenue (corner of Sahara and Eastern).

“Last year’s Christmas dinner was a huge success. Over 300 of our cities homeless people were served food here at our dealership and over 200 volunteers came out to help. This year promises to be even bigger, with more than 500 homeless people expected to be in attendance.” said Randy Compton, Las Vegas Harley-Davidson Event Coordinator.

Volunteers are still needed to help staff the event. People interested in volunteering can contact Pastor Cody Huff at Broken Chains Ministry at (702) 265-2603, or can also just show up at Las Vegas Harley-Davidson between 8:30-9:00 a.m on Christmas morning.

Broken Chains Ministry serves the homeless on a daily basis by providing them with job opportunities, clothing and other basic necessities. People in Las Vegas area interested in making donations to the homeless, can approach the bins set up at the Las Vegas Harley-Davidson dealership. Warm clothing (jeans, sweatshirts, jackets, etc.), small children’s toys, small non-perishable pop-top cans of food, small jars of peanut butter, crackers, tooth brushes, tooth paste, soap, etc. are all greatly appreciated.

The Venetian Poker Room hosted the third-annual “All In For CP” celebrity charity poker tournament to benefit the One Step Closer Foundation on Saturday, Dec. 11. Celebrities and professional poker players came together in support of finding a cure for cerebral palsy and graced the red carpet before taking their seats in the luxurious poker room.

Tournament host Cheryl Hines and One Step Closer Foundation founder Jacob Zalewski kicked off the event with the four most famous words in poker: “shuffle up and deal!” Actress Shannon Elizabeth also addressed the crowd, calling Zalewski “an inspiration and a shining star.”

During the tournament, players bid on silent auction items and enjoyed massages from Canyon Ranch SpaClub masseuses. One player bid a staggering $5,000 to sit between Playboy playmates Stacy Fuson and Lauren Anderson.

With siblings restaurants in Los Angeles and Miami as well, STK Las Vegas will make its official debut on December 15, 2010, at The Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas. STK redefines the American steakhouse experience by combining the vibrant pulse of an upscale restaurant with the soul of a downtown lounge. World Series of Poker Releases 2010 Events List

Harrah's Enterprises, owner and operator of the World Series of Poker 2010, has revealed the official schedule of events for the 41st annual World Series of Poker set to run from May 27th, 2010 with the Casino Employees No-Limit Hold'em, and closing events on November 9th, 2010 with the Main Event final table.

The WSOP 2010 schedule of events names a total of 57 bracelets poker events, including three brand new poker events ($50,000 Player's Championship Event #2, $10,000 H.O.R.S.E Event #43, World Championship, $25,000 6-Handed No-Limit tournament Event #52). The 2010 World Series of Poker event list refers to several changes, for example, the $50.000 H.O.R.S.E event has been substituted with the $50,000 "Player's Championship" (Event #2), featuring eight unique games (Limit Hold'em, Omaha Hi-Low Split-8 or Better, Seven Card Razz, Seven Card Stud, Seven Card Stud Hi-Low Split-8 or Better, No-Limit Hold'em, Pot-Limit Omaha, 2-7 Triple Draw Lowball).

The first 5 weekends of the poker series (May 29-30, June 5-6, June 12-13, June 19-20 and June 26-27) will include $1,000 buy-in No-Limit Hold’em tournaments with two opening flights. In addition, a sixth schedule of events on July 1-2, will also feature the same event at the same buy-in level. The 41st annual WSOP 2010 will finalize on Monday, July 5th with the $10,000 No-Limit Hold’em Championship Main Event. The Main Event will be interrupted on July 17th, and will resume on four months later with the "November Nine" final table playing from November 6th-9th

Other modifications presented for the WSOP include several new regulations that will regulate the daily amount of play, and the addition of more poker tables. According to the World Series of Poker 2010 website, the entire convention center of the Rio Las Vegas will be dedicated to the 2010 World Series of Poker, with tournament tables in the 58,000 square foot Pavilion and the 38,000 square foot Amazon Room.

The WSOP is also giving poker players over five months to register for the first event on the WSOP schedule. Pre-registration for the World Series of Poker is accessible at the Main Cage of the Rio and on the internet at the World World Series of Poker site. Sign-up for all bracelet poker events will remain open until the start of the third level (approximately 2 hours, 20 minutes after start time) or until all seats are sold.
